Martha: Luk 10:38-41

Luke 10:38-41 As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him. She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet listening to what he said. But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, “Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!”
“Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things,

Ons almal kry seker sulke Martha-oomblikke, wat ons net vir die Here kom VERTEL hoe besig ons is om vir Hom te werk. Of wat ons bloot vergeet om bietjie by sy voete te kom sit. Partykeer vergeet ek hoekom praat ons van "by Sy voete sit", maar dis seker oor hierdie storie. Die Here soek dat ons net in sy teenwoordigheid wil wees en hoor wat Hy wil sê. Hy is nie 'n God wat ooit op ons sal skree van ver af nie, ons moet regtig naby kom om goed te kan hoor.

PS - Martha is a name of Aramaic origin, meaning "lady, mistress". According to the gospel of John, she was the sister of Lazarus and Mary, and she witnessed her brother's resurrection. The image of the Biblical Martha is that of a hard-working housewife, and she became the patron saint of house-bound wives (for Roman Catholics of course).
